Montevallo Takes the Lead in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia

Carson-Newman moves up to 2nd, University of North Alabama remains in 3rd

SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 27, 2024) – The Association of Collegiate Anglers releases the second standings update of the 2024-25 season for the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.  Celebrating its historic 20th season, the ACA got things kicked off at Kentucky Lake on September 21-22 with the double points Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley.  21 of the Top 25 teams entering the event were on hand in Henry County and Paris, TN.  The event proved to be extremely important to the points race early on in the season as 12 teams moved up inside of the Top 25, and five others cracked the Top 25 for the first time this season.

Four-time defending title holder the University of Montevallo moves up from 6th place in the previous rankings to take over the number one spot.  Carson-Newman climbs two places into 2nd, and the University of North Alabama remains in 3rd.

Last season, the University of Montevallo won its 4th straight title for the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia. The team from Montevallo, AL was picked number one in the ACA Pre-Season Poll, and just two points updates into the new season…Montevallo finds itself in the top spot. 

Montevallo entered the Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley ranked 6th.  The team’s two highest-finishing bass both placed inside of the Top 6 to help them climb to the number one spot.  Montevallo’s two best fish placed in 1st, and T-6th.  Team member Evan Mabrey won the tournament with a bass weighing 7.11 pounds.  Storm Clark finished T-6th with 6.06 pounds.  Those two Top 6 finishes earned Montevallo the most points of any school to compete at Kentucky Lake with 3,450.

The double points Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley awarded 1,750 points to 1st place, with points being distributed all the way down to 150th.  It took a Kentucky Lake bass weighing a minimum of 3.61 pounds for an angler to receive points in the standings.

A total of 12 teams that were ranked inside of the Top 25 entering the first ACA event of its historic 20th season managed to improve upon their ranking.  Numerous teams jumped 10 or more places to improve upon their ranking.  Here is a look at several teams that made significant moves in the Top 25 for the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia:

4) McKendree University – Previously Ranked 8th

6) Adrian College – Previously Ranked 10th

9) LSU-Shreveport – Previously Ranked 18th

10) Tarleton State University – Previously Ranked 20th

12) Murray State University – Previously Ranked 25th

16) Auburn University – Previously Ranked 21st
