Berkley Baits from Top to Bottom That Could be Key Players at Kentucky Lake Next Weekend
SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 14, 2023) – Next weekend, the Association of Collegiate Anglers is set to contest its first event of the 2023-24 season on the Bass Pro Shops Collegiate Bass Fishing Series. The Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley will take place September 23-24 at Kentucky Lake. On Day 2 of tournament competition, anglers are permitted to use only Berkley baits. In this article, we will highlight a variety of baits from Berkley that could be key in helping anglers catch the winning fish out on Kentucky Lake.
Berkley offers an extensive lineup of products, ranging from topwater lures to crankbaits and award-winning soft plastics. The lineup of Berkley baits is comprised of offerings that can be fished from top to bottom, any time of the year, to catch bass. The first segment of baits from Berkley that we will highlight is topwater.
The 2023 edition of the Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley marks the third time in which this ACA major, no-entry-fee, double points event has been contested during the fall. Fall time fishing on Kentucky Lake presents anglers with a great opportunity to throw topwater lures. Baitfish are moving up to shallower water from their summertime haunts. Rocky shorelines, brushy banks, and shoals near the main river channel are areas where bass will position to ambush and feed on these baitfish.
In years past, the Berkley Choppo has been a key bait at this event in the fall. Numerous prize-winning fish have fallen victim to the Choppo out over open water. This is a great bait to reel through open water and down shorelines when there is a slight chop on the water.
Here is a look at other topwater baits offered by Berkley:
Along with topwater, crankbaits and hardbaits are another popular bait for anglers to use out on Kentucky Lake during the fall. For the same reasons anglers choose topwater lures, crankbaits and other moving baits are also a big player. These hardbaits can be fished along rocky shorelines and around shallow brush to trigger bites from bass feeding up on shad. The full lineup of Berkley crankbaits and hardbaits are comprised of baits that can be used to target fish at any depth.
The Berkley Stunna is a bait that we’ve heard anglers mention more and more often over the last couple of years. This jerkbait is ideal for targeting suspended bass and keying in on fish that can be seen using Garmin LiveScope.
Another moving bait anglers mention catching fish on during the fall at Kentucky Lake is the Berkley SquareBull Crankbait. During the fall, simply covering water can be one of the most productive patterns for getting bites. Fish tend to be spread out chasing bait, so tying on a crankbait and burning down the bank with a squarebill crankbait will be a popular pattern next weekend.

Swimbaits and soft plastics are another great option for fishing during the fall at almost any fishery across the nation. Whether you’re flipping shallow cover, finesse fishing for finicky bass, or tossing big swimbaits across sloping points, Berkley has a wide array of swimbaits and soft plastics for anglers to use out on Kentucky Lake.
Located on the Tennessee River, Kentucky Lake offers great offshore ledge fishing and areas for anglers to target near the main river channel. These are the types of places where anglers can use their electronics to locate fish, set up, and target bass with a big worm. The Berkley PowerBait Power Worm, in the 7 inch and 10 inch models, is the perfect bait for soaking around brushpiles and structure to get big bites.
The General is a bait that we hear mentioned year after year as anglers cross the stage with their bass and discuss how they caught that particular fish. This is a versatile stick bait that can be fished weightless, you can add a light weight, or even rig it on a shaky head. Shallow cover, rocky banks, and points will be areas where this bait can excel out on Kentucky Lake.
Lastly, a soft plastic swimbait will definitely be a bait that anglers will have tied on throughout competition. The Berkley PowerBait The Champ Swimmer is the ideal soft plastic swimbait for competitors to use out on Kentucky Lake during this upcoming tournament. Swimbaits are known for catching big bass, and with fish keying on fall time shad…The Champ Swimmer could be the ticket to catching the winning bass.
