Montevallo Maintains 1,000 Plus Point Lead as School of the Year Race Enters Final Month
Back-to-Back Winner Mckendree University Remains in 2nd, Murray State Holds Steady in 3rd
SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 4, 2021) – The race for the 2020-21 Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia enters the final stretch of the season as the calendar has now flipped over to the month of May. With just three weeks remaining before a winner is crowned following the completion of the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops on May 27th, the conclusion of the season is setting up to provide a historic conclusion. The University of Montevallo has held on to the top spot in the rankings for going on seven months now as the team has amassed a total of 16,240 points. McKendree University, seeking its third straight title, is in second, and Murray State sits in third as the team is hoping to win its first title as well.

It is important to note the significance of the Top 25 in the latest update to the standings. Each team ranked in the Top 25 in this specific update automatically qualifies to send up to four (4) boats to the 2021 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship. Registration for that event will close this Friday, May 7th. Teams ranked in the Top 25 are encouraged to register as soon as possible to secure their spots in the year-end Championship.

The latest update to the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia features results from major events on both the BASS and MLF collegiate trails. Here is a look at several of the major movers in the Top 25 this week:
4) Adrian College – Previously Ranked 6th
9) Bethel University – Previously Ranked 10th
10) Campbellsville University – Previously Ranked 11th
21) Auburn University – Previously Ranked 27th
23) Emmanuel College – Previously Ranked 25th
The University of Montevallo continues its dominance atop the School of the Year points race as only three weeks remain until a winner is crowned. Cal Culpepper and Mason Waddell aided the team’s cause to win its first-ever title by finishing third place at the Bassmaster College Series event on Lake Cumberland. That top three finish nets Montevallo 740 points, bumping its season total to 16,240.
Prior to the final rankings at the conclusion of the season, this update is one of the most significant of the entire season. Schools ranked in the Top 25 at this moment in time earn a maximum of four automatic qualifications into the 2021 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops. Only one team jumped up from back in the pack to break into the Top 25 this week. That team is Auburn University. Auburn earned a total of 1,430 points last weekend to creep into the Top 25 for the first time this season.
Adrian College was another team that earned over 1,400 points combined at the two most recent events. Carter Ball & Austin Tapley finished fourth at Lake Cumberland and Caleb Dachenhaus & Elliot Wielgopolski earned an 11th place finish at the MLF Regional to combine for a total of 1,435 points. This two-day run by Adrian bumps the team up two spots to fourth overall in the nation. Entering last weekend, Adrian trailed number three ranked Murray State by 1,410 points. The Bulldogs Bass Team now sits just 670 points out of the Top 3.
