The University of Montevallo entered the 2023-24 season as the back-to-back-to-back title winner of the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia. Last year, at Lake Hartwell, Montevallo made history by becoming the first school to ever win the title three times. Now in 2024, they are looking to continue to add to that record. A victory in college fishing’s only all-encompassing National Rankings system this season would give Montevallo four titles. Montevallo enters the Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops with a season total of 33,605 points.
Trailing 2,335 points behind Montevallo in 2nd place is Carson-Newman University. Carson-Newman earned a total of 2,070 points at Sam Rayburn Reservoir to narrow the gap between 1st and 2nd. At this week’s triple points ACA National Championship on Pickwick Lake, schools have the opportunity to earn up to a maximum of close to 7,000 points. Carson-Newman is not mathematically eliminated from contention for that top spot, and could earn its first ever School of the Year title with a strong showing at Pickwick Lake.
Sitting in 3rd place is two-time title winning University of North Alabama. UNA trails Montevallo by 6,160 points, and Carson-Newman by 3,825. UNA enters the Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops with the opportunity to earn points at each of the two remaining points eligible events on the schedule. The two teams in front of them can only earn points at this week’s tournament. Before the season concludes, UNA could earn a total of nearly 9,000 points in the coming weeks. Being located on the banks of Pickwick Lake in Florence, AL, 3rd ranked UNA is a team to keep an eye on to make a major move.
24 of the Top 25 ranked teams are set to compete in the triple points Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops this week.
Following the conclusion of the tournament on Pickwick Lake, the ACA will update the points standings next week for the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.
